- Also send a short paragraph summary and pic (if possible) to i[email protected] so we can show off!

Cascade 10K, Turner OR, January 15, 2023
And, folks are traveling to races again....
Wow, what a morning! It felt like the "before times" having two cars filled with fellow HOTV Runners traveling to Turner together. Nine of us ran the 10k distance, and represented quite well I think, with at least 6 placing in the top three in their divisions! That despite the not-so-clement weather: 43 degrees, rain and hail, winds at about 20-25 mph. The race benefits Cascade High School's track and field program, and in return they open the gym and restrooms to runners before and after the race. The chicken noodle soup was especially appreciated today!
Armanda is in his "That was no big deal," pose. Bonnie and Kat are in the re-warming process.
It was a tough morning, but I haven't felt this good in a long time. Thank you! From Judi Saam

CIM 2018
|
The California International Marathon has been a bucket list race of mine for a while. Having lived in Sacramento and watched numerous friends complete the race, I hoped I could one day do it to. Well, this year was the year!
Seven of us (including 5 runners) made the trip from Corvallis to Sacramento (by way of PDX) to tackle the CIM. We spent the weekend touring, eating, relaxing, and watching Christmas movies. Oh yeah, and running. The morning of the race it was in the upper 30s, cold but dry - perfect conditions to run from Folsom to downtown Sacramento. We donned our homemade arm warmers (fabric markers and tube socks, a great team building activity) and headed to the starting line. Despite our wide range of paces, many of us had trained together for months and we were all determined to meet our goals, which ranged from Qualify for Boston to "just beat my last marathon time". The weather was great, the race course was nice, and the spectators were a plenty. A little over four hours after the race started, all five of us had crossed the finish line, sore and tired, but mostly happy. Among us: 1 first time marathoner, 3 BQs, 5 smiles, and 10 tired legs. The group included HOTV members Beth Campbell, Chris Cotton, Abby Hauver, Hanna Knowles, and Matt Soicher (along with Ryan Lipscomb and Kyler Knowles as support crew!) Race report by Matt Soicher |
Shellburg Falls 2018
Shellburg Falls is located about 26 miles East of Salem in the same general forested area as Silver Creek Falls. The course is a mix of gravelled logging roads and single track trail. There is a fair amount of uphill and downhill running, and the opportunity to run behind Shellburg Falls (followed by a steep climb up a stairway).
This year, we made the 5.4 mi Shellburg Falls Trail Run a family competition, with Regan (dad), Claire, and Gwyn. This was Gwyn's first trail race (after years of looping the track). The morning was perfect for racing, overcast, slightly foggy, 40 degrees. Gwyn and Claire were both in the 20-24 age group and both medalled, with Gwyn taking 3rd woman overall, and Claire taking 1st in the age group (technically second, but they do not count the top male and female finishers). I managed a 2nd place finish for the 55-59 mens age group. Race report by Regan McMorris |
Silver Falls 2018
It started out a chilly, rainy morning at Silver Falls State Park with the promise of some sunshine later in the morning. HOTV had a strong showing of runners, and a sense of camaraderie and fun was in the air.
The course, winding through autumn tree-lined trails and curving behind waterfalls, is one of the most beautiful you will find anywhere. The terrain is not too difficult, although we all remarked afterward that the hills were worse than we remembered, not to mention the dreaded stair climb. There were some speedy times in the group, and all of us placed near the top of our divisions. We enjoyed seeing Rachel and Keith Prickett and Ramon Martinez (helping at an aid station), our compatriots that no longer live in Corvallis. After the race, we hung out for a while with our chili and beer, warming up by the fire and visiting with our friends. The sun shone on our mud-covered legs; another successful Silver Falls Half was in the books! Race report by Jennifer Ringo |
Barrel to Keg Relay Race
Barrel to Keg Relay Race
7/16/16 Philomath to Newport, Oregon Race website Our women's team, Bad Mother Runners, set out to defend our championship for the fifth year in a row. The day started in Philomath at the Harrison Bridge Vineyard. The weather was in our favor this year with a cool and cloudy 65 degrees. We started out strong sporting our baby doll in a backpack, the trademark of our team. We are Bad Mother Runners after all. With our baby in tow, passing it from runner to runner, we chugged along trails and roads, up mountains and along rivers, winding our way to the ocean. We all ran hard and finished strong with our best time yet, 8:27. We finished 5th place overall with an average pace of 7:22 and secured our women's division 1st place for the fifth year in a row. Team members included Lynn Roylance, Rachel Prickett, Janine Arthur, Lisa Boyd and Jenna Tilt. |
Ragnar Northwest Passage Relay
7/15/16 - 7/16/16
Blaine, WA to Langley, WA Race website Our ultra relay team, the F team, ran the NW Passage relay on July 15-16. The race was 196 scenic miles from Blaine, WA on the Canadian border to Langley, WA on Whidbey Island. The course passed along Bellingham Bay, through Deception Pass, and along rolling country roads on Whidbey Island. Our team came in 5th place overall for ultra teams out of 43 finishing ultra teams with a total time of 26:42:18 and an overall pace of 8:10 and 36th overall out of 502 finishing teams. Team members included Marc Weber, Ryszard Zielke, Warren Coffeen, Sean Larsen, Eric Hartstein, and Jared Voice. We had great weather, the relay was well organized, and we all ended up with some pretty tired legs after covering roughly 30-40 miles each over the course of the relay. |
